About the NPC

After several years of successful collaboration beginning in 2002, the NPC underwent a strategic planning and restructuring process. Today, we are ready to serve our members and the region as a valuable outlet for communication and collective action. HUB (Host. Unify. Blend.)

Our quarterly HUB events, cosponsored by two or more NPC member organizations, bring our membership and other interested parties together to make connections, build prospective partnerships and learn about and support our region.

NPC History and Successful Collaborations

Founded in early 2002 with the support of Elsie Hillman, the New Pittsburgh Collaborative (NPC) is the only organization that proactively seeks to create a more cohesive young professional community by bringing together – and facilitating partnership among - various young professional groups in and around Pittsburgh. It is comprised of a non-partisan network of diverse and civically engaged organizations. These groups share information and draw upon one another's resources for events and initiatives to educate their members, advocate for dialogue on regional issues, influence decision makers and encourage progress in the Pittsburgh region.

The NPC – which involves a diverse group of more than 20 local organizations – strives to be the umbrella organization in which all of the region's young professional community is equally represented.

There have been many collaborative partnerships founded through the NPC. For example, Pittsburgh Young Professionals (PYP) and the Junior League of Pittsburgh worked together to raise money for their respective scholarship funds by hosting a joint fundraiser.

In the Summer of 2004 all of the NPC organizations along with many other area foundations and individuals worked together to raise money for the "Save our Summer" fundraising campaign which successfully re-opened 16 public pools and 7 recreation centers in the City of Pittsburgh.

In April of 2005 the NPC partnered with AARP Pennsylvania to co-host the Intergenerational Forum on Social Security Privatization. The event garnered local and national media attention for its innovative approach to bridging the gap between generations. The event attendance exceeded expectations with nearly 500 people.

In the Fall of 2005 Urban League Young Professionals of Pittsburgh (ULYP) and Shalom Pittsburgh collaborated to present Shalom Sankofa, an event to promote broader understanding of the Black and Jewish communities. A cocktail reception at the Heinz History Center showcased the history of both communities including food samplings, discussions led by prominent Hill District residents, and access to the "Points in Time" exhibit with a history presentation of the Hill and a rebuilt pulpit from a synagogue. A trolley tour of Hill District synagogues helped to foster a greater understanding of Hill District history.

Shalom Sankofa is an early example and inspiration for the quarterly HUB events we currently hold, where diverse groups get to mix, mingle, and collaborate with one another.  Delegate meetings throughout the year provide similar opportunities. For further information Contact Us.
